Damp Proofing
Damp Remediation
Service Description
Damp proofing is often needed when the home has persistent moisture but not active water intrusion. The signs can be subtle at first, especially in properties with clay brick, stone, or concrete walls. Watch for these common clues: - Tide marks on lower walls - A horizontal stain or discolored band near the floor can point to rising damp. This happens when moisture travels upward through porous wall materials. - Peeling paint or bubbling plaster - Paint, wallpaper, and plaster can loosen when moisture sits behind the surface. - Musty smells - A stale, earthy odor often means moisture is trapped in walls, floors, or crawl spaces. - Mould or mildew growth - Mould around baseboards, corners, closets, or poorly ventilated rooms is exacerbated by damp conditions. - White powdery deposits - This is often called efflorescence. It forms when moisture moves through masonry and leaves salts behind as it evaporates. - Cold, clammy interior walls - Walls that feel damp even when there has been no rain can be a sign of moisture vapor movement. Damp proofing requires professional inspection, assessment and appropriate solutions depending on the severity of the conditions, it can involve several methods. A damp specialist may install or repair a damp proof course, improve ventilation, treat masonry, or correct ground moisture issues near the foundation.
