This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our website (themouldmedics.co.za), book our services, subscribe to our email updates, or join the HomeGuard Plan. We process your information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

2. What personal information we collect

We collect only the information we need to provide our services:

  • Enquiry and contact details — name, email address, phone number and message, when you complete a contact form or email us.

  • Booking details — your name, contact details, and the address and location of the property to be inspected, when you book an inspection online.

  • Inspection records — reports, findings, relating to properties we inspect for you.

  • Site data — photographs, moisture measurements, indoor air quality data and thermal imaging remain the property of Building Science Inspectors, only shared with client booking data collection for Moisture Ingress Surveys.

  • HomeGuard membership details — your name, email address and membership status when you join the HomeGuard Plan. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider; we never receive or store your full card number.

  • Newsletter subscription — your email address, if you choose to subscribe.

  • Technical information — standard device and browser information collected through cookies and similar technologies when you visit our site.

3. Why we process your information

  • To respond to your enquiries and provide quotes.

  • To schedule, carry out and report on inspections and remediation services.

  • To manage your HomeGuard membership, billing and member benefits.

  • To send you our email updates, only where you have subscribed or given consent.

  • To meet legal, insurance and professional record-keeping obligations.

  • To keep our website secure and improve how it works.

 

We process on the basis of: performing a service you requested; consent (for marketing); our legitimate interest in operating and securing our business; and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies for essential functions and, with your consent, for analytics and advertising. We use Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand how visitors use the site and to show relevant advertising. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies through the cookie banner on your first visit, and change your choice at any time through your browser settings.

5. Who we share your information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate, each bound to protect your information:

  • Wix.com Inc. — our website, booking and membership platform. Please note Wix may process and store data outside South Africa. We rely on Wix's contractual and technical safeguards for such transfers, as permitted by POPIA.

  • Google LLC — analytics and advertising services.

  • Payment processors — to process HomeGuard subscription payments securely.

  • Professional advisers and authorities — only where required for legal, insurance or regulatory purposes.

6. How long we keep it

Enquiry details are kept as long as needed to assist you. Inspection records are retained for the period required by our professional and insurance obligations. Membership and billing records are kept for the duration of your membership and as long as required by tax and accounting law. Marketing subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • request confirmation of what personal information we hold about you, and access to it;

  • request correction or deletion of your information;

  • object to processing or withdraw consent for marketing at any time (unsubscribe links are included in every email, or contact us directly);

  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa:

8. Security

We use the security measures provided by our platform providers, including encryption in transit, access controls and secure infrastructure. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.

9. Children

Our services are directed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page with the effective date shown above.

11. Access to information (PAIA)

Requests for records under the Promotion of Access to Information Act can be directed to admin@buildingscienceinspectors.co.za. Our PAIA manual is available on request.
